A Sudbury man has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 13 and a half years.

25-year-old Reginald Berard was found guilty in the brutal murder of 51-year-old Marcel Couillard, who  was found dead in his apartment on Melvin Street in November of 2015.

Coulliard had been beaten and stabbed.

A post-mortem examination revealed blunt force injuries to his head, likely caused by a closed fist. There were also eleven stab wounds.

A jury found Berard guilty of second-degree murder last October.

The victim’s family and friends say they are deeply disappointed Berard will be eligible for parole after serving just 13 and half years.

They are relieved the court proceedings are over and they hope they can begin healing.
