Sudbury police say a 23-year-old man from the community of Dowling has been charged with dangerous driving of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV).

Police say they received several calls around 1:40 p.m. on Monday about a yellow ATV being driven in an unsafe manner on Highway 144 between Chelmsford and Dowling.

They say the driver was allegedly seen driving along the yellow line of the centre turning lane, passing school buses and tractor trailers, while speeding at a rate around 100 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

When officers arrived to the area, the ATV driver allegedly made U-turn and tried to engage in a pursuit.  Police say the accused then pulled into the parking lot of a gas station on Highway 144 where a police car was parked and proceeded to drive in circles pelting the vehicle with stones.

The 23-year-old driver was arrested and is facing several charges, including dangerous operation and operating an ATV with no licence plate or insurance.

His ATV has been impounded for 45-days and he was held overnight in police custody.

The accused was released on bail Tuesday morning and is scheduled to reappear in court on Wednesday.
