It doesn't take a discerning eye to see that the Cochrane region's health care hub needs some TLC.

For the group tasked with reaching out to the community for funds, the 'to do' list just keeps growing.

"The government doesn't fund any more capital purchases," said Pierre Lambert-Belanger, Timmins & District Hospital Foundation.

"We, the hospital boards, rely entirely on donations, raising funds and community partners. These are so important. Without this money, we can't properly run this hospital."

Over the past three years, the foundation has raised $15 million dollars - and a new $150,000 donation from Tahoe Canada only adds to the much needed pot.

“An important part of our business is our employees and the hospital is an important part of their lives, so it's an opportunity for us to give a little bit towards the hospital and the modernization of that," said Peter Van Alphen, Tahoe Canada

The foundation and the hospital it represents says without the community, quality healthcare wouldn't be possible.

"It's always a challenge trying to prioritize where the money should go but it's so, so needed, and a lot of people don't realize that," Lambert-Belanger explained.

The former mayor of Timmins, Tom Laughren, now works for Tahoe Canada. He knows the importance of private companies in the area helping out.

"Any time that they can do something like this that improves opportunities, not only for them, but for family and the community as a whole, I think that's very important," Laughren said.

Although the foundation has exceeded its fundraising goals thanks to this week's donation, it says the work of trying to raise money is never finished, and hospital administrators say luckily, the generosity from this community never seems to run out.
