The Timmins Rock is parting ways with the team’s new head coach, only two weeks after he was hired.

Ryan Woodward was rolled out as the Rock’s new head coach on May 4.

In a media release issued on Friday, the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League franchise said the team was ‘parting ways’ with Woodward.

“Our organization must always act in the best interest of our fans, season ticket, holders, sponsors and team, and will always make decisions in the best interest of these parties,” said Ted Gooch, team president.

There is no word on the reasoning behind the departure.

The Rock said Woodward’s replacement will be announced in the coming days.

Woodward was hired to replace for Paul Gagne, who retired after the playoffs.

The Rock finished with a 36-16-3-1 record in the past season, finishing third in the East Division. The team ended up losing to the Powassan Voodoos in the East Division final.

“We're going to be well conditioned and we're going to be a hard team to play against. Teams aren't going to enjoy coming to Timmins to play,” said Woodward, during an interview with CTV after he was hired.
