Sudbury police say it turns out the threat that closed down an animal shelter in Wahnipitae was actually a misunderstanding stemming from someone 'expressing frustration'.

Police were called to the Greater Sudbury Animal Shelter on Tuesday at around 2 p.m. in regards to what was perceived to be a verbal threat directed towards employees.

On Wednesday, police said an investigation revealed no offense was committed.

"There was a miscommunication and a misunderstanding in relation to the choice of words used by an individual who was expressing frustration," reads a media release issued by the Greater Sudbury Police Service on Wednesday.

"The individual was spoken to by officers and cautioned on the how words can be perceived over the phone."

Police said there is no threat to employees or animals in the shelter.
