A solar panel company in Sault Ste. Marie is getting a boost from Ottawa to grow and expand its business.

Sault MP Terry Sheehan announced on Wednesday that Heliene Inc. is getting repayable contribution from the federal government of $199,000.

Heliene management said it will enable the company to purchase and install a fully automated soldering machine, as well as provide related staff training.

The upgrade will help maintain the jobs of more than 70 people who produce products for solar project developers, engineering and construction companies, and commercial utility customers.

“The market for clean technology continues to grow worldwide and I’m proud that the Government of Canada is supporting local companies like Heliene Inc., ensuring our communities are poised to benefit from opportunities in this growing sector. Projects like this lead to economic growth, job creation and a cleaner, greener Canada,” said Sheehan.

The funding is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program.
