Premier Kathleen Wynne spent Tuesday in Sudbury, where she visited Health Sciences North, spoke with local business leaders and toured a carpenter training facility.

The Wynne government's budget announcement last month about children and youth 24-years-old or younger receiving free prescription drugs was music to the ears of Sudbury's NEO Kids Foundation.

"I think it's very progressive," said Patricia Mills, NEO Kids Foundation president.

"I think it's a wonderful initiative for families. Believe it or not, I still have children under 24 and I have grandkids. This is huge for us as well"

"I personally look after families and children all day, every day and hear all kinds of stories where they sometimes have to make choices between where their money goes and what they choose to do in terms of treatment versus other health, food, for example," added Dr. Sean Murray Health Sciences North Pediatrician.

While it was a warm reception at Health Sciences North, that was not the case outside of Wynne’s appearance at a Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce event.

Dozens of protestors gathered; voicing displeasure over the sale of Hydro One.

"Two weeks ago, the Liberal government sold another 20% from under us," said Jamie Kensley, who was protesting the sale of Hydro One.

"Basically, that leaves us with less than half the shares. That's money that could be coming back to the province to help pay for infrastructure, education, home care, healthcare and it's not going to be coming to us now."

Meanwhile, with Sault Ste. Marie’s by-election looming next week, the premier shared her thoughts.

"By-elections are always a challenge for the governing party, I get that,” said Wynne.

“But Debbie Amaroso would be a terrific representative for Sault Ste. Marie.”

The premier also said she supports the idea of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation keeping its head office and some 400 jobs in the Sault.

Wynne said the local expertise in the gaming industry suggests the OLG should stay there and she said she has made her feelings known to the head of the OLG and the finance minister.
