Update:

Police have charged a 37-year old Wahgoshig First Nation man following an investigation into three separate incidents.

Police say they occurred between June 22nd and July 18.

Original story:

There is little evidence a residential apartment building is also home to Kirkland Lake's only methadone clinic.

It's only when you hear the facility has been robbed three times in the past two months that you begin to realize why the doors are boarded up.

"A suspect, or suspects, entered the methadone clinic located on 2nd Street here in Kirkland Lake and once inside the suspects stole an unspecified quantity of methadone," said Constable Sandro Cave, Ontario Provincial Police.

Police are currently investigating.

The local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association said uncontrolled methadone on the streets of this small town is worrying.

"It is consumed in a drink format, which poses a huge safety risk in the community," said Lora-Lee Fortin, Canadian Mental Health Association.

"In the event that it were to get into the hands of a small child, or even young individual."

The narcotic substance is used to treat chronic pain and opioid addiction and without a controlled dose, Fortin said the results can be serious.

"If an individual does not have tolerance to methadone, a very small dose can be very serious," she said.

Leo Franceschet lives in an apartment above the clinic.

"I look out the window and police were already there, that was about 15 minutes after I heard the crash," said Franceschet.

Franceschet has lived in the building for almost two years and says he doesn't care that the clinic is downstairs.

"I don't care myself," he said.

"They should have their own place, really, someplace where they're away from the residential area."

He isn't alone, some people CTV spoke with said the location should change and security should be increased.

"I'm just surprised that they don't have an alarm system, that they were able to break into it so easily."

"Three times in one place? Makes you wonder if somebody's involved."

"It's a shame, it's a shame we even need one here, but, such is life."

It isn't clear whether the facility has an alarm system or security measures - the clinic has refused to speak with CTV and police maintain the investigation is ongoing.
