Police officials continue to probe a fatal crash from last week that claimed the life of a 34-year-old Kirkland Lake man.

The two vehicle collision happened at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 112 at around 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The crash involved a 2017 grey KIA Rio and a 2013 gray Kenworth semi-tractor trailer.

In a media release issued on Tuesday afternoon, the Ontario Provincial Police said Abdoul Kader Djibo Abdou, from Kirkland Lake, was killed in the collision.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 48-year-old man from Marquis Township, did not sustain any injuries.

“The investigation into the cause of the collision continues,” reads a statement from police.

“Members of the Ontario provincial Police (OPP) Detachment in Kirkland Lake along with the assistance of OPP Technical Collision Investigation Unit (TCIU) Investigators are investigating a fatality as result of a two motor vehicle collision.”

The highway was closed for about seven hours following the collision.
