The Ontario Provincial Police have issued a public safety warning for a remote area in the south end of Greater Sudbury.

During a home invasion on Monday at around 8 a.m. on Secord Road, police say a woman was taken from her home under duress.

Secord Road is a windy remote road along the Wahnipitae River.

Police are warning people who live in this area to be on high alert after a home invasion.

The OPP said early on Monday morning a 51-year-old woman was reported missing when she didn't show up at work.

"As a result of investigation, it was determined later in the day, when the female was located that she left the residence under duress, she was assaulted by a male subject," said Constable Andre Taschereau, OPP.

Police said the suspect is described as a white male, between 30 to 40-years-old, with long dark hair and a beard.

"This male is not known to the victim and as a result we want to make the public aware that this incident did occur. They should be aware of their surroundings and who may be in the area. There may be vehicles, or a subject, or subjects that are present within the area of Secord Road or Estaire that are not local residents or not known the public," Taschereau explained.

CTV spoke with a relative of the victim who said the family does not want to make a statement.

Police are urging people in the area to be vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious activity.
