Foul play is not suspected in the death of a man found in a motel fire in North Bay.
Fire officials said the blaze broke out on Wednesday at around 8 a.m. at the Nipissing Inn.
In a media release issued on Thursday, the North Bay Police Service said a 66-year-old man was found dead in motel room. A cause of death has not been released.
"No foul play is suspected," reads a statement from police.
"(The) Ontario Fire Marshall and coroner are investigating."
Wednesday was a hectic and tragic morning for Dan Patel. His day started with the sounds of a fire alarm.
"I just live there behind the office, so I come and I look around for where the beeping is and I got to the room and I just knocked on the door," said Patel, the motel's manager.
"Nobody answered. The door was unlocked, so I tried to open it a little bit, but I saw the smoke, so I just called 911 right away."
"The first crews arrived and they immediately began the fire attack. They entered the unit and found a small, smoldering fire. They extinguished the fire and began to search the unit, where we came across a deceased person in the unit,” said Jason Whiteley, North Bay fire chief.
While no one else was injured, staff at the motel told CTV the area where the fire occurred is rented out to long-term tenants.
None of the other tenants were forced out of their homes, nor was business interrupted for the motel.
