UPDATE:

All Weather Alerts for Northern Ontario have ended.

ORIGINAL:

Environment Canada issued Public Weather Alerts Tuesday afternoon with snow squall warnings for the following communities:

·         Chapleau

·         Elliot Lake – Ranger Lake

·         Greater Sudbury and vicinity

·         Kirkland Lake – New Liskeard – Temagami

·         Manitoulin – Blind River – Killarney

·         Sault Ste. Marie – Superior East

·         Timmins – Cochrane

These areas should be prepared for periods of short and heavy snowfall Tuesday afternoon into the evening hours as a sharp cold front sweeps across Northeastern Ontario.

Travelers are advised visibility will be greatly reduced at times between 2 and 8 pm, due to heavy and blowing snow, with wind gusts up to 65 km/h.

Snow squalls should pass through Timmins mid-afternoon and move South through Sudbury Tuesday evening.

Also for our region, special weather statements have been issued for:

·         Kapuskasing – Hearst

·         Moosonee – Fort Albany

Heavy snowfall at times as a low pressure system moves east from Northeastern Ontario into Northern Quebec Tuesday.

This will result in 10 to 15 centimeters of snow likely accumulating.

Fort Albany, however, should expect 15 cms of snow.

When the low pressure system passes around early evening, northwesterly wind gusts of up to 60 km/h will create areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Travelers should be prepared for quickly changing and deteriorating road conditions.

Residents should be on the lookout for worsening weather conditions, take necessary safety precautions and watch for updated statements.
