With the Sault Ste. Marie by-election coming up next week, candidates are doing everything they can to drum up enough support to win.
Over the next four days, CTV’s Jairus Patterson will introduce us to the four major candidates; starting with the Ontario Liberal Party and Debbie Amaroso.
The last time the public saw Amaroso she lost he bid to be re-elected as mayor of Sault Ste. Marie.
However, she said that's in the past and she is hoping to once again, serve the community.
“Bottom line, I love this community,” said Amaroso.
“I think that the community needs to have a person positioned to capitalize on the opportunities."
Amaroso has been spending her retirement visiting her children and grandchildren in British Columbia and Southern Ontario.
She said the call to run as for Liberals caught her by surprise, but the more she thought about it, the more it made sense.
“This is all about relationships, and having those relationships and the key people you can talk to and to capitalize on the opportunities is key to success for the community,” Amaroso said.
While some suggest this election is a two-horse race between the Progressive Conservatives and the NDP, Amaroso isn't letting that bother her. She told CTV she wasn’t the favourite when running for mayor either.
“I wasn't expected to win that race,” she said.
“There are a number I was not expected to win that I have been successful, so you know the old (saying), the only true poll is Election Day, is absolutely true"
Amaroso wouldn't confirm if she plans on running in next year's provincial election regardless whether she wins or loses this one. She said right now, her focus is on winning on June 1.
