The body of a Toronto man missing since last week has been found in Georgian Bay.

In a media release issued on Wednesday morning, the Ontario Provincial Police said the body of a 53-year-old man was discovered by officers on Tuesday afternoon.

The body was found near Grave Island on the waters of the Georgian Bay.

“The body has been identified as Owen Sands, who was reported missing on October 6,” reads a statement from police.

Sands was last seen travelling in his pontoon boat near Shawanaga Inlet on the waters of Georgian Bay in the Parry Sound area on October 5, according to police.

Family members found the boat on October 6 near Trim Tree Island.

A post mortem examination is expected to take place at the Chief Coroner's Office in Toronto
